Gulab Garh Mandir

Gulab Garh was a temple complex which included the mandir with its spire, a row of rooms, a well, and a compound circled by trees. It served as a den for mostly itinerant sadhus who used to smoke Ganja from their chilams to get high in their religious quest. One could approach this temple by a narrow path that went south from the station road after the mango grove next to the old talaab (pool) of Bhera.

The venerable Banyan tree of the Gulab Garh Mandir complex

At its base this Banyan tree was circled by a thadda (raised terrace) to provide seats for visitors under its shade. Prominent among the Bhera's Hindus who had contributed for the construction of this Thadda in memory of their ancestors, was Lala Anant Ram Kapur of Dhoanan da Garha, and who had a bajazza (cloths merchant) shop in Guru Bazaar. He got it built in memory of his ancestor Lala Panna Mal Kapoor and this dedication was inscribed on the thadda.
