Outer Ganj wala Darwaza: Lahori Gate

In pre-partition days, it was a much busier entrance to the town. Just outside of the gate was the tonga-stand under a huge banyan tree where tongas carried passengers to and from the railway station.

Inner Ganj wala Darwaza

Unlike the Chak-wala, Lalu-wala, and outer Ganj-wala Darwazas that have been rebuilt, the INNER Ganj wala Darwaza stands in its original and majestic form.

Ganj Mandi Compound

Pre-partition Era: Several shops to the left of inner Darwaza (where cars and a truck are parked) belonged to Lala Daya Ram Kapur & Sons who were the main auctioneers and buyers of the wheat that was harvested around Bhera and brought to the Mandi.

Ruins of Old Police Station

The old Thana (Police Station) was part of the government buildings complex in the main bazaar: Municipal Committee, Sub-Tehsil Court, and Civil Hospital. The new Police station is now located on Shahpur Road.

This "lonely" residence above a shop is on the main street between Ganj wala Darwaza and the Chowk.

A Street from Main Bazaar

This side street from the main bazaar goes south to Mian da Mohalla where the pre-1947 Arya Priamry School was located. The right corner wall in the foreground belonged to a maniari shop: Gurdas Kapur & Sons, General Merchants.
