Mohallah LoharaN: Pictures by Zahid Mumtaz (mumtaz.zahid@yahoo.com)

DSC07548.JPG

Mohalla Loharan is situated on the western end of Bhera, is adjacent to Mohallah Pirachgan to the north, and Mohallah PiraN wala to the east. As the name suggests, the residents of Mohallah were mostly blacksmiths and some of them did very fine ornamental work on cutlery. They used mother-of- pearl from river Jhelum to make beautiful handles of knives, walking sticks, and daggers. Their craft and trade have died in Bhera as most of the mohallah residents have moved out to other cities of the Punjab in search of jobs. Only a handful remain in the mohallah.
