A naayin (a barber's wife) is all set to make a small cut in the strapped vein of a man's lower leg to help him lose some of his "dirty, unclean" blood. This practice of "therapeutic" bleeding (in other places and countries leeches were used for this purpose) is continued outside Meeran Sahib Darbar in Bhera. Until 1947, trainloads and busloads of men from surrounding towns used to pour in Bhera to attend the annual "ratt da mela" (festival of bleeding) held at the nearby locality of Sheikhupura. darabar.
